Firefox from Mozilla is now available in the Windows store

Today, Mozilla will add Firefox to Microsoft’s Windows store. One of the earliest third-party alternatives to be made accessible through the Microsoft Store is Firefox, which uses its own Gecko engine rather than competing Chromium browsers like Opera or others that are the majority in Microsoft’s Edge webview.

For third-party browsers like Firefox, Microsoft’s new open store principles have finally made it to the Microsoft Store. Chrome hasn’t yet arrived, though. As soon as possible, Opera made sure that its own browser was available in the Windows shop.

Mozilla stated that using Firefox that was already installed on Windows required you to download it from the Internet and go through a cumbersome process from Microsoft. But “I chose Firefox and it now has all the latest Firefox capabilities,” as “Microsoft modified its Store policies and improved the desktop browser.”

A few months after Mozilla managed to bypass Microsoft’s default browser security measures on Windows, Firefox began showing up in the Microsoft Store. Mozilla has discreetly created a one-click method that is only accessible through Microsoft that makes it simple to switch to Firefox on Windows. Instead of the multiple-prompt process that Windows 10 now uses, Mozilla appears to have reverse-engineered how to make Microsoft Edge the default browser in Windows with a single click.

It’s interesting to note that with the Microsoft Store version of Firefox, the one-click procedure doesn’t appear to function. This suggests that the company was forced to withdraw the workaround for the default browser because Mozilla chose not to submit a workaround version of Firefox (or Microsoft rejected it from the Microsoft Store).

Since its open letter to Microsoft in 2015, Mozilla has been urging Microsoft to change its default browser settings in Windows. Microsoft has made it more challenging to set the default browser in Windows 11, and Mozilla has been attempting to persuade Microsoft to do so.

Microsoft Store now offers Firefox for both Windows 10 and Windows 11.
