Google unveiled tablets during the Android Dev Conference this year. For devices with larger screens, including foldable devices and ChromeOS-powered smartphones, the upcoming upgrade was revealed.
The update, which Google is dubbing 12L, will improve Android 12’s performance on larger screens. Many of the features that were supposed to be in the “12.1” upgrade appear to be real, which is good news since we first learned about it in late September.
The location of the home screen is 12L. notifications on the lock screen UI layout can be improved by changing Quick Settings and other things. Google states that a two-column layout will be displayed on any device with more than 600 density-independent pixels (dp).
According to the Google example, you may access both at once by sliding the Quick Settings menu to the left side of the screen and locking the notifications panel to the right. Without having to launch one app and then exit it, everyone will be able to access both at once.
The new taskbar included with the 12L also makes it simpler for users to rapidly navigate between various programs. You can resize an app by dragging and dropping it from the Taskbar. Google claims that all incompatible or unwilling apps are running in split-screen mode per Google’s instructions.
Better letterboxing, which increases the appeal of apps, is another feature coming in 12L. Google provides letterboxing size information to device manufacturers. Moreover, the inset window’s placement, rounded corners, and shape and color were altered.
The 12L developer preview page allows you to test out new features before the release of 12L in the first half of 2019. To get started, you can download the 12L emulator from there. In order to provide the 12L update, Google is also collaborating with OEM partners. The Lenovo P12 Pro tablet has already received the 12L development preview.
It’s not surprising that Google opted to provide a specific update for foldable phones given the large number of new models that are now available (and tablets, too). While Samsung is exploring a monitor that can be folded into a tablet, Google has two foldable phones in its lineup. Foldable gadgets have been out for a year, and the trend doesn’t seem to be slowing down. Best Buy is now providing in-store repairs for Samsung’s foldable devices, which are already very well-liked.
