Samsung reveals its’metaverse’ for phones and next-generation RAM

Samsung is involved in servers in addition to upcoming devices. It revealed its upcoming mobile RAM technology, which might also be applied to automobiles and the “metaverse.” Although the new LPDDR5X RAM chips from Samsung weren’t specifically mentioned in the news release as a way to help people experience “digital reality,” the technology should help make devices faster and last longer.

Metaverse Apart from buzzwords like AI and 5G, Samsung has promised some genuine performance and power use improvements. Its next-generation Memory will be 1.3 times faster than previous-generation LPDDR5, the company claimed. It consumes 20% less power than the previous generation while having higher densities (up to 64GB per chip).

Samsung claims that part of that gain can be attributed to its new 14nm chip manufacturing process. Besides, for all the metaverse jabs. The onboard CPUs (or phones) powering AR and VR headsets could benefit greatly from lower power consumption and improved performance.

When asked about the status of its previous-generation RAM chips compared to the 14nm process, which Samsung has branded as “10nm-class,” or falling between 10nm and 20nm, the company did not comment right away.

AnandTech predicts that LPDDR5X RAM chips from Samsung could start appearing in products around 2023, however Samsung hasn’t specified when these would be made available to OEMs (including Samsung’s phone division). Along with the introduction of regular-power DDR5 to desktop PCs, It could take some time to discover the significant generational difference between devices running LPDDR5 and LPDDR5X memory. These improvements, however, are what make smartphones better with each new iteration. It’s encouraging to see that Samsung is moving on despite making hazy claims about the metaverse to promote one of the less noteworthy features of the phone’s functionality.
