Apparently, Apple will equip the forthcoming iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max with an always-on display. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that Apple may release a feature with iOS 16 that will permit the iPhone to display a limited amount of information even while it is locked.
Gurman claims that the iPhone’s always-on feature will function similarly to the Apple Watch Series 5 and later. By turning on always-on mode, iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max will reduce the frame rate of the lock screen. Energy is conserved even when the screen is active. The low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) display that Apple uses in its new Apple Watch models may or may not be used in the upcoming iPhone. These low-power screens, which are created to prevent excessive power consumption, play a significant role in the effectiveness of always-on mode.
Analysts foresaw that the iPhone 13 would include an LTPO display to provide an always-on display last year. Always-on mode has been supported by many Android devices for a long time. For instance, on some Samsung handsets, the time is displayed on the always-on screen even while the phone is locked. It can show widgets and other things, including the battery level.
Gurman refers to iOS 16’s features as “widget-like.” Perhaps it will have comparable features, such as the pre-installed wallpapers. “The iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max are not the only devices to specify an always-on display exclusively.” Apple may only use its new A16 chip in two high-end iPhones, according to prior leaks.
Apple intends to make a number of additional announcements on June 6 at its forthcoming Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). Gurman anticipates that Apple will upgrade the iPad’s windowing and multitasking capabilities, in accordance with earlier forecasts. Apple highlighted research from programmer Steve Troughton-Smith, who recently learned that users might be developing a feature that enables users to freely resize windows. Several of Apple’s apps may potentially undergo changes. Gurman anticipates that Apple will update its System Preferences menu to more closely match the iOS Settings app in addition to giving Messages audio features.
We won’t have to wait very long to find out how these predictions turn out, as WWDC is only a little more than a week away.
